Carrier setup with brokers
Carrier setup with a broker runs through its onboarding platform first and its own contract second. Armstrong Transport Group and Allen Lund Company both start you on Highway and both ask for $1,000,000 of liability (Armstrong) or auto (Allen Lund) coverage and $100,000 of cargo; Armstrong wants 90 days of active authority, Allen Lund one year. Your agent sends the certificate: Highway takes certificates only from agencies, and not a binder alone. A setup stalls when the authority is too young, the certificate came from the wrong place, or a VIN on the policy does not match the ELD.

How do you set up with brokers as a carrier?
In order, because each check rests on the one before it. The broker starts from your FMCSA record: a SAFER snapshot lists "the specific operating authorities the carrier (or broker) is allowed to operate," or shows NOT AUTHORIZED. FMCSA's schedule in 49 CFR 387.9 sets $750,000 for a for-hire carrier of nonhazardous property in interstate commerce at 10,001 lb GVWR and up. Armstrong and Allen Lund each publish a higher number.
Next comes the broker's onboarding platform. Armstrong and Allen Lund both send carriers to Highway, which says "you can onboard in less than 30 seconds" with pre-filled information, answering only each broker's own questions. An owner-operator told us in July 2026, "A lot of them now, when you get a brokered load anyway, they want you to get on highway, and highway has it on file."
Then the insurance and the contract. Highway's help center says it "accepts COIs only from insurance agencies—not directly from carriers, brokers, or insured parties," and Allen Lund says "Certificates must be submitted from your insurance producer (agent)." Last is the broker's own paper: Armstrong lists "A signed carrier agreement," and Allen Lund sends you from Highway back to its Carrier Portal for its application and contract.
| Company | Where setup starts | Authority age | Insurance it lists |
|---|---|---|---|
| Armstrong Transport Group | Highway | At least 90 days active | $1,000,000 liability, $100,000 cargo |
| Allen Lund Company | Highway, then the ALC Carrier Portal | One year or more active | $1,000,000 auto, $100,000 cargo, certificate from your agent |
| Go To Logistics (gotologistics.net forwards to Go2 Logistics) | No setup page found | None published | None published |
How does Armstrong carrier setup work?
Through Highway, once your authority is 90 days old. Armstrong Transport Group's carrier page asks you to check that you have "Active authority for at least 90 days. $100,000 in cargo insurance. $1,000,000 in liability insurance. A signed carrier agreement." Its setup link goes to Highway, and the page offers "same-day set-up with Highway" to carriers who meet that list, quoting "15 minutes or less" in one place and "under an hour" in another.
Settle two points first. The page says "liability insurance" without saying auto, general or both, so read the carrier agreement's insurance clause, or call Armstrong at the 877-240-1181 number on its site, before you assume a commercial auto policy answers it alone. And the 90 days run on your authority, not your policy: have the cargo policy bound and its documents issued before day 90, so the certificate is ready when Highway's insurance step asks for your agency.
How does carrier setup with Allen Lund work?
In two steps, and only after a year of authority. Allen Lund Company's Registration Criteria page says "you must have at least one (1) year or more active Carrier authority." Step one is Highway: "Onboard as an Allen Lund Company carrier through Highway. Once vetted and verified by Highway you will return to our Carrier Portal to complete the approved carrier application and contract." Step two, in the Carrier Portal, starts from your DOT number and asks for a W-9 and a certificate of insurance showing $100,000 of cargo and $1,000,000 of auto coverage, sent by your agent.
Highway's onboarding has its own insurance step, where you enter your agency's details, and the Carrier Portal then asks for the certificate again. Tell your agent both requests are coming. If something fails, the page says "If your company is not compliant to one or several of the qualification criteria, you may return at another time to register once the non-compliant items are corrected." Allen Lund's FAQ gives Carrier Compliance's number as 800.811.0083.
How does Go To Logistics carrier setup work?
We found no published process, and the name is not unique. FMCSA's SAFER name search for "GO TO LOGISTICS" returns two companies whose names contain it: GO TO LOGISTICS INC of River Grove, Illinois, and ON THE GO TO LOGISTICS LLC of Simi Valley, California; a hyphenated GO-TO LOGISTICS LLC of Bay City, Michigan, also exists. GO TO LOGISTICS INC, USDOT 1500245, is listed as a carrier with authority as a "Motor Carrier of Property (Except Household Goods)," MC-563531. The web address gotologistics.net forwards to go2.us, whose River Grove street address matches SAFER's for GO TO LOGISTICS INC; the Go2 pages we read do not print the Go To name, USDOT or MC number, so the match rests on the redirect and the address. Go2 Logistics calls itself an "LTL & FTL Freight Carrier & Specialized Freight Broker." The site prints no setup page, onboarding platform or insurance minimum.
So the requirement is whatever its brokerage sends you. Call the number on Go2's site, (708) 338-0303, ask for the carrier packet and its insurance clause in writing, and forward both to your agent. Ask which MC number the brokerage contracts under and look that up on SAFER too, since a snapshot lists each operating authority an entity holds.
Why might your carrier setup not be approved?
Because one check in the chain failed. The published checks sit in three places: the calendar, your FMCSA record and the insurance file the platform holds. The list below runs through them; check each before you call the broker.
The binder rule catches new policies. A binder can arrive before the policy documents; in September 2026 we wrote to a new client, "I have the binder which confirms the policy is active but need the policy documents to issue your COI." When you bind, ask when the declarations and vehicle schedule will issue, and time your Highway setups after that.
- Authority age: Armstrong asks for 90 days of active authority and Allen Lund for a year, and no certificate changes the date
- FMCSA status: SAFER shows NOT AUTHORIZED when an entity has no operating authority, and each snapshot links to whether it has "a pending insurance cancellation"
- Certificate source: if you sent the certificate yourself, Highway says your agency "must reissue it to insurance@certs.highway.com"
- Binder or placeholder: Highway's list of what not to submit is policies marked TBA/TBD, binders only and expired policies
- Missing VINs: for a scheduled-auto policy, Highway asks for full 17-digit VINs
- VIN mismatch: Highway marks a truck Unverified when "the VIN appears on the carrier’s COI but not the ELD, or on the ELD but not the COI"
- No ELD connection: Highway says "Carriers without an integrated ELD may be limited to three broker connections per day"
- Holder name: Highway asks agencies for "Highway App, Inc." and its Dallas address, not just "Highway"
What is a carrier setup notification?
An email a platform sends when a setup starts, finishes or changes, and some go to the main office on your FMCSA record as well as to whoever did the setup. Descartes MyCarrierPortal's invite email "invites the carrier to complete a MyCarrierPortal online carrier packet, ensuring that only desired carriers can submit packets." When the packet is done, the completion email goes to the broker, the person who filled it in, "and the carrier’s main office as reported on the FMCSA," to help "prevent fraud or identity theft." A completion notice for a packet nobody at your company filled out is a reason to call the broker it names.
Highway's notices cover identity and insurance. Its carrier page offers "Real-time FMCSA change alerts" on your contact details. As certificate holder, it "is notified when renewal policies are bound," but it also says "Agencies do not always notify Highway of renewals," and that a renewal due within 10 days should be submitted immediately "to avoid broker rule failures." Keep your FMCSA contact details current, and give your agent the list of platforms holding your certificate before each renewal.
What to send your agent before you start broker setups
Send this once, before the first setup, so each platform's request can be answered as it arrives.
- 1.Each broker you are applying to and its platform: Highway, MyCarrierPortal or its own portal
- 2.Each holder's exact name and address as the request prints it, such as Highway App, Inc., 5931 Greenville Ave #5620, Dallas, TX 75206
- 3.Every truck you will dispatch, with its full 17-digit VIN as your ELD shows it
- 4.The liability and cargo limits each broker lists
- 5.Reefer breakdown or trailer interchange limits and deductibles, if you carry them
- 6.The date your policy documents issued, so a binder never goes out as proof
- 7.Your USDOT and MC numbers and the date your authority went active
- 8.The email and phone on your FMCSA record
Why does Highway want my ELD connected?
Highway says it uses ELD connectivity "to help verify that the carrier is legitimate and that its trucks are active and moving." Without one you may be limited to three broker connections a day, and Highway says connecting an ELD or a direct invitation from the broker may let you keep onboarding.
My agent sent the certificate to Highway. Why is it not showing?
Highway says the agency may not have sent a complete certificate, or the email may still be processing. Have your agent confirm it went to insurance@certs.highway.com with Highway App, Inc. as holder and every VIN, then write to coiservice@highway.com with the date and time it was sent or the subject line.
How fast does Allen Lund pay once I am set up?
Allen Lund's FAQ says it pays a carrier 14 days after it approves the paperwork, or 30 days when the invoice goes through a factoring company. Its Quick Pay comes as a Comchek, at 2% or $25, whichever is greater.
